Port of Felixstowe – starting transit declarations

The Port of Felixstowe is a major port located in the south east of the UK, north of London with good connections to the Port of Rotterdam as well being a major port for goods arriving from “Rest of the World” countries including China and the USA.

Process to start transits for goods exiting the UK

The process to start transit declarations from Felixstowe is simple and efficient. The T1 transit declaration must be prepared in TransitNet with the customs office of departure indicated as GB000051. A valid LRN along with the commercial documents for the shipment should be sent to UK Border Force at the below email address;

FelixstoweITTransit@homeoffice.gov.uk

The transit declaration will be processed by UK Border Force and an MRN and a TAD (Transit Accompanying Document) will be generated and returned to TransitNet available for download by the TransitNet user.

Additional information

The necessary ENS declaration for entrance to the EU is generated by the ferry company (e.g., Stena Line) based on data provided at the time of ferry booking.

The Portbase notification required for entry to the Port of Rotterdam is also generated by the ferry company.

Process to start transits for goods arriving from Rest of World countries (RoW)

The process for starting transits for goods which arrive from RoW countries is a little different. These goods will usually arrive and be put into temporary storage and will be registered in the ports inventory system.

For these goods, it is necessary for SGS to do a Removal Request Order (RRO) via the port system known as Destin8. Your client centre should request this service from the TransitNet Back Office. The RRO is done to assign SGS as the responsible party to complete the transit declaration. It is necessary to have the container number and the number of packages to complete the RRO. If the RRO is done under a different company, SGS will not be able to complete the transit formalities. In these cases, the goods should be re-nominated to SGS.

After a successful RRO in Destin8, the goods will be assigned a Unique Consignment Number (UCN) which should be indicated in the T1 transit declaration. This can be added as an Accompanying Document, document type “Other” with the reference number indicated as the UCN.

After the creation of the transit declaration, the valid LRN along with the commercial documents should be sent to UK Border Force for processing at the below email address;

FelixstoweITTransit@homeoffice.gov.uk

The transit declaration will be processed by UK Border Force and an MRN and a TAD (Transit Accompanying Document) will be generated and returned to TransitNet available for download by the TransitNet user. The TAD will be needed to allow the goods to be loaded and leave their temporary storage location.
